The principal mission of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharm Sci) is to deliver and manufacture drug substance and drug products (e.g., tablets, capsules, solutions, etc.) to support toxicology studies, clinical trials, and commercial processes, and to carry out numerous tests to ensure that these materials meet stringent standards for quality consistent with FDA guidelines.
Pharm Sci takes new compounds from Discovery's lab bench and explores and develops their potential. Our interdisciplinary teams work in parallel to ensure the safety, effectiveness and affordability of drug candidates. To create the marketable form of a novel compound - to make a molecule into a medicine - we must be just as innovative as those who discover it.
Our analytical chemists research and develop methods used to test the product itself and all raw materials used in any phase of production. Pharmaceutical scientists, physical chemists, material scientists and chemical engineers design an appropriate delivery system for each drug. Synthetic Organic chemists, biochemists, physical chemists, pharmaceutical scientists and chemical engineers develop the most efficient processes possible to scale up production at each step.
To help us achieve our noble goal, we've structured our Pharm Sci organization to consist of the following groups:
Working within integrated "powerhouse" teams, the extraordinary professionals in this group deliver synthetic routes, formulations, manufacturing processes, and analytical methods used to ensure Pfizer products are of the highest quality standards.
Speed, quality and flexibility are the driving forces behind this group in which small-scale chemistry is transformed into manufacturing processes that fuel clinical studies around the world. Partnering with Worldwide Development, the Supply Chain forges new ground to efficiently produce the tablets, capsules, liquids, and other dosage forms that are the lifeblood of Pfizer.
This group oversees the global coordination of all Pharmaceutical Sciences activities associated with the advancement of biologically derived candidates, including process development, API manufacturing, formulation development, and quality control of all biopharmaceutical products.
Our colleagues who comprise this group lead drug candidate project teams, manage and govern the global portfolio, develop strategic direction, and spearhead operational effectiveness.
Facilitating the rapid development and global approvals of our products while overseeing the strategic balance between business interests and scientific/regulatory requirements is the focus of this mission-critical group.
At PGRD, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to exciting and ground-breaking research. Those with a demonstrated ability to take initiative while working in a team-spirited atmosphere are most highly sought.
